Portable Zazuu Sentenced to Prison for Stealing, Assault

An Ogun State Magistrate Court has sentenced street-hop artist Portable, also known as Zazuu, to three months in prison for assaulting a police officer and stealing music equipment, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.

An Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo has sentenced controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as “Portable”, to three months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦30,000 fine after being found guilty of assault and resisting arrest.

The court ruled on Monday that “Portable assaulted a police inspector and obstructed law enforcement officers who attempted to serve him an arrest warrant in March 2023.”

Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke told the court that “Portable committed the offence on 18 November 2022 at about 11:00 am in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.”

According to the charge sheet, “Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, and others now at large, conspired to commit felony, to wit: assault, contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State 2006.”

The charges also stated: “You, Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, did unlawfully assault one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi by beating him all over his body,” an offence under Section 351.

Portable also faced accusations of theft of studio equipment, including “a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser mic,” contrary to Sections 383, 384, and punishable under Section 390.

Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found the singer guilty of Counts 1 and 2. He ruled: “The defendant is sentenced to one month imprisonment with a ₦10,000 fine option on Count 1, and two months imprisonment with a ₦20,000 fine option on Count 2.”
