American R&B singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray, a public order offence, in connection with a 2023 nightclub altercation in London, bringing an end to the possibility of a trial on more serious criminal charges.

The 37-year-old music star entered the guilty plea on Friday during proceedings at Southwark Crown Court in London.

Standing in the dock dressed in a beige suit and dark brown tie, Brown responded, “Guilty,” after the charge was read before the court.

With the guilty plea, Brown will no longer stand trial on additional allegations, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon involving a bottle.

Prosecutors informed the court that the more serious charges, which Brown had previously denied, would be formally withdrawn at a later date.

The case stems from an alleged altercation that occurred on February 19, 2023, at Tape, an exclusive private members’ nightclub located in London’s Hanover Square, during Brown’s UK tour.

According to prosecutors, a man was allegedly struck with a bottle before being chased and assaulted during the confrontation.

The alleged victim, who was also charged in relation to the incident, pleaded guilty to affray and is expected to be sentenced alongside Brown.

Chris Brown is currently on £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 26.
