FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered the demolition of new construction works by Paulo Homes at River Park Estate, Abuja, declaring the projects illegal and warning that anyone building in the estate does so at their own risk.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the Department of Urban Control to demolish new construction works being carried out by Paulo Homes at River Park Estate, Abuja.

Wike gave the order while addressing reporters during an inspection of the estate over the weekend.

He explained that Jonah Capital, a Ghanaian company involved in the dispute, had an expired Development Lease Agreement (DLA), which led to the revocation of its Certificate of Occupancy in line with clause 9.2 of the agreement.

According to him, Paulo Homes had no direct business with the FCT Administration, stressing that its partnership with Jonah Capital contravened the terms of the lease.

“And when I said, I think the lease agreement had expired, no more developments. What Paulo Homes did overnight was to begin construction in order to tie the hands of the administration. Of course, we will not succumb to such,” Wike said.

The minister warned that all ongoing construction would be demolished, cautioning anyone building in the estate to desist.

“Anybody who is doing anything here now is at his own risk. It will go down. No amount of blackmail will stop us,” he declared.

Wike further assured residents that the FCTA had no intention of seizing their properties. He said plans were underway to return Certificates of Occupancy to genuine property owners.

“We are going to invite residents here who own property for a meeting next week to explain what we intend to do. So, there is no cause for alarm,” Wike added.
