  • A Kuje Magistrate Court has remanded Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, his brother, and others in prison over the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest led by Omoyele Sowore in Abuja.

A Magistrate Court in Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has ordered the remand of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, and ten other individuals in the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The group was charged with inciting disturbance and breach of public peace in connection with the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest held in Abuja on Monday.

The protest, reportedly led by Omoyele Sowore — publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate — was organised to demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is standing trial for alleged terrorism.

According to VerseNews, police operatives cracked down on the demonstrators, leading to several arrests.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kanunta Kanu, another brother of the detained IPOB leader, alleged a conspiracy involving the executive, legislature, and judiciary to frustrate Kanu’s upcoming trial scheduled for Thursday.

“The magistrate sitting in Kuje remanded Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case, and Prince Emmanuel Kanu, his youngest brother. This is a conspiracy to frustrate Kanu’s trial,” he wrote.

On his part, Sowore accused Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun of orchestrating the arrests.

“I just learned that illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun has sent Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and 11 others all the way to Kuje Magistrate Court to get them remanded in prison at all costs,” he wrote on Facebook.

Ejimakor later confirmed his detention, saying the court refused to grant them reprieve.

“I am safe and sound but still under custody at Kuje Prison. The magistrate refused to listen to our submissions. He insisted on remanding us till Friday and got his way,” he said in a social media post.
