  • A mild drama broke out at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday when IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, engaged in a physical confrontation with a Department of State Services (DSS) officer moments before proceedings began.

A moment of tension unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday after the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, clashed with a Department of State Services (DSS) officer shortly before the day’s proceedings commenced.

Kanu, who was escorted into the courtroom under tight security, appeared visibly agitated as he raised his voice, declaring that “the Nigerian court does not obey its own laws.”

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when one of the DSS operatives approached Kanu calmly, apparently to guide him to his seat. However, the situation quickly escalated when the separatist leader shoved the officer aside, shouting at him to “not try that rubbish.”

The sudden outburst caused brief commotion in the courtroom, as journalists, lawyers, and court officials watched in shock. Other security operatives quickly stepped in to de-escalate the confrontation and restore order before the judge’s arrival.

Kanu’s legal team has repeatedly accused the DSS of restricting access to their client and violating court directives regarding his treatment in custody — allegations the security agency has consistently denied.

Court proceedings later resumed without further incident, but the brief altercation once again highlighted the growing tension between Kanu’s defence team and the DSS, amid ongoing calls for his release and adherence to judicial rulings.
