- Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has sparked heated debate after sharply responding to a man who advised Igbo men to avoid marrying Igbo women.
Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has issued a sharp response to a man who urged Igbo men to abandon Igbo women and marry foreigners instead.
The man, reacting to an online post, wrote:
“Dear Igbo men, instead of marrying an Igbo woman that’ll falsely accuse you of raping your daughter, better look outside for a wife. Go to East Africa, especially Rwanda, and pick a damsel.”

His comment immediately stirred widespread backlash, with Genevieve among those who confronted him.
In her reply, the actress accused him of deflecting responsibility and targeting vulnerable women for exploitation.
“In other words, instead of checking yourself and taking accountability, go for the unsuspecting and carry on with your evil. Got it.”
Her response quickly went viral, prompting mixed reactions across social media. While some users supported her stance, others criticised her, arguing that she misunderstood the context of the original discussion.

An online user, Street Professor, fired back, saying: “When Igbo women were falsely accusing men of rape, were you deaf and dumb? When they were maltreating maids, you were deaf and blind… But you suddenly found your voice when men decided to seek for relationships elsewhere. Can you just STFU! Your hypocrisy stinks!!”
Another user, Oluwadarasimi, added: “Did she just talk about accountability?… Next time just read the tweet and move on if you have nothing meaningful to say.”
Adem also criticised Genevieve’s take, writing:
“Did you even follow up with the news before typing this b.s? The man’s wife falsely accused him… so from where to where?”

The debate comes on the heels of a disturbing case involving a woman who accused her husband of defiling their daughters—an allegation later recanted by the children, who confessed that their mother had coached them. The man, initially arrested, was eventually released, while the woman who orchestrated the false accusation is now in custody.
