- Davido has revealed that his hit collaboration With You with Omah Lay started from a direct message after a misunderstanding, sparked during a live stream with American streamer Kai Cenat.

Afrobeats superstar Davido has shared the story behind his hit collaboration With You with fellow Nigerian singer Omah Lay, revealing that the song was born out of a simple direct message and a misunderstanding.
According to Davido, the journey to the collaboration began when popular American streamer Kai Cenat visited Nigeria. Davido said he was driving Cenat to a club while the streamer was live on camera when an Omah Lay song started playing in the car.
As they vibed to the track, Kai Cenat asked who the singer was, and Davido responded that it was Omah Lay. The moment, captured during the live stream, later circulated widely on social media.
Reacting to the video, Omah Lay took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to thank Davido for enjoying his music, while also admitting that he had previously believed Davido disliked him.
Davido revealed that he immediately reached out to the singer privately to clear the air.

“Omah Lay thought I hated him, so I sent him a DM,” Davido said, explaining that he assured the singer there was no bad blood and that he had always respected his work.
He added that he told Omah Lay he would love for them to work together, a conversation that eventually led to studio sessions between both artists.
According to Davido, several songs were recorded during those sessions, but both artistes agreed that With You stood out as the strongest record to release.
The song went on to enjoy massive commercial success, breaking multiple streaming records and later earning a Grammy nomination, marking a major milestone for both artists.
The revelation has since sparked fresh reactions online, with fans praising the collaboration and noting how mutual respect and open communication turned an initial misunderstanding into one of Afrobeats’ biggest recent hits.
