The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has imposed a strict ban on all forms of indiscriminate parking and road obstruction ahead of the 2025–2026 Cross-Over Night celebrations, warning motorists and event organisers to comply or face sanctions.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the agency said it had adopted a zero-tolerance approach as the state prepares for a massive influx of commuters during end-of-year activities.

Addressing the expected surge in traffic around worship centres, nightclubs and event venues, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the agency would strictly enforce traffic regulations across Lagos.

“LASTMA strongly condemns the abuse of public road infrastructure through its conversion into improvised parking spaces or informal event venues,” Bakare-Oki said.
“Such acts are egregious violations of traffic regulations with far-reaching implications for public safety, emergency response and urban mobility.”

To manage what he described as an “exponential increase” in vehicular movement, Bakare-Oki disclosed that a specialised enforcement framework has been activated, including the newly inaugurated LASTMA 24-Hour Night Gangs.

The unit, he explained, consists of trained officers and surveillance teams deployed to clear traffic flashpoints and ensure free flow of movement across the state throughout the night.

He warned that motorists who flout the directive would face immediate consequences.
“Offenders will be sanctioned in strict compliance with extant traffic laws, without exception,” he said.

LASTMA also appealed to leaders of religious institutions, event centres and social hubs to make proper parking arrangements for their guests rather than allowing vehicles to spill onto major roads.

According to the agency, the success of the crossover night depends on cooperation between residents and traffic enforcement officials.

“Collective compliance remains indispensable to the realisation of a peaceful, orderly and seamlessly managed cross-over night across Lagos State,” Bakare-Oki added.

Residents were urged to remain patient and cooperative as LASTMA intensifies operations to maintain order. In the event of traffic-related emergencies, members of the public were advised to contact the agency’s toll-free hotline on 0800 005 27862 for real-time intervention.
