- A power outage disrupted the decoration of Tunji Disu as acting IGP in Abuja, sparking reactions after the incident occurred during the high-profile ceremony at the Presidential Villa.

A video currently circulating online has captured the moment a sudden power outage disrupted the decoration of Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector-General of Police by Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
The ceremony, which took place around 4 p.m. on February 25, 2026, was attended by top government officials, including Nuhu Ribadu, Femi Gbajabiamila, and George Akume, alongside the immediate past IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
President Tinubu formally decorated Disu by pinning the new insignia on his uniform and commended Egbetokun for his service to the nation.
However, the event took an unexpected turn when electricity supply was abruptly cut as both Disu and Egbetokun stepped forward during the ceremony, leaving attendees visibly surprised.

Disu’s appointment came just 48 days before his scheduled retirement on April 13, 2026, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. However, under the amended Police Act, which allows Inspectors-General to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age, he could remain in office until 2030 if confirmed.
The development followed Egbetokun’s resignation, which he attributed to personal and family matters requiring his full attention.
The incident has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians describing the power outage at such a high-profile event in the Presidential Villa as embarrassing.
