Former Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has explained the reason behind her unusual outfit at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, where she appeared in a dress reportedly made from over 500 loaves of bread.
Queen Mercy was among the celebrities who drew attention at the award ceremony, which took place on May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Her outfit, designed by celebrity fashion designer Toyin Lawani of Tiannah Place Empire, became one of the most talked-about looks of the night due to its unconventional design.
Speaking about the outfit in an interview, Queen said the dress was created as a strategic way to promote her bread-baking business, adding that the concept was intentional marketing.
According to her, the outfit was meant to draw attention to her brand and showcase her business on one of Africa’s biggest entertainment stages.
“What other place is better to advertise my business than the AMVCA,” she said.
Toyin Lawani also reacted to the viral outfit on Instagram, saying she was starting a new trend of “everyone wear your business,” suggesting that celebrities can use fashion to promote their personal ventures.

While some fans praised the creativity behind the design, others criticised it on social media, arguing that using hundreds of loaves of bread for fashion represented a waste of food.
However, Queen dismissed the criticism, insisting that the outfit served its purpose as a business promotion and was not a wasteful display.
The appearance has continued to generate conversation online, with many describing it as one of the boldest and most unconventional outfits seen at this year’s AMVCA.
