Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi has condemned the unfair treatment by the Nigeria’s security agents in bring to law criminals who perpetrated against voters in the just concluded governorship and house of assembly election.

VerseNews Nigeria reports that the gubernatorial election on March 18 was flawed by electoral violence especially in Lagos State which escalated through ethnic fight between the Igbos and Yorubas.

Voters were attacked by thugs with different kinds of weapons and many injured persons were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Obi while sympathizing with the injured persons on Thursday said the security agencies have failed to use their constitutional power to protect life and properties in the country.

“It is heartbreaking that citizens who simply went out to exercise their civic duties and vote candidates of their choice were brutalized and attacked in such a horrendous and vicious manner.”

“It is equally disheartening that the security agencies with the constitutional duty of preventing and detecting crime have not made the arrest of the criminals who perpetrated these brutal acts a primary focus, but were instead quick to detect and arrest citizens who are using their right to free speech and social media to condemn the wrong doings of our supposed Leaders.”

However, he called on the the Muslim faithful and Christians as they begin their praying and fasting to pray for Nigeria in this time of political darkness.

“During this very somber time in our nation’s political history, I would like to enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters as you begin the one month fasting, praying, and alms-giving during this holy month of Ramadan, Very striking is the fact that this year’s Ramadan is starting at the time when the Christians are 26 days into their 40 days Lenten season which also involves fasting, praying and charity.”

“I pray that the supplications the adherents of the two religions will offer at this very special time will help to mitigate our sins as a nation, bring peace and harmony, and help our journey to salvation,” He added.
