- Suspected ‘repentant’ bandits have killed a commercial driver and kidnapped nine people in two separate attacks in Kaduna State.

Fresh fears have emerged over the worsening security situation in Kaduna State after suspected ‘repentant’ bandits killed a commercial driver and abducted nine other persons in separate attacks along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road and in a farming community within Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
The slain driver, identified as Mallam Ibrahim Adamu, was reportedly the grandson of one of the District Heads in the Birnin Gwari Emirate.
According to family sources, Ibrahim was attacked and killed at Kwanan Giginya along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway when heavily armed men opened fire on his commercial vehicle.
The assailants reportedly shot him dead on the spot before abducting about five passengers travelling in the vehicle.
A relative of the deceased confirmed the incident, describing it as another tragic reminder of the persistent insecurity that continues to plague communities along the highway.
In a separate attack, four farmers were reportedly kidnapped while working on their farmlands in the Kurgi area of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
Sources said the victims were carrying out their normal farming activities when armed men stormed the area and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The latest incidents have renewed concerns among residents over the continued activities of armed groups in the area despite previous reports of peace agreements and reconciliation efforts involving some bandit factions.
Community members say the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari axis remains one of the most dangerous routes in the region, with frequent cases of kidnappings, killings, and armed robberies disrupting daily life.
Residents further alleged that criminal gangs operating in the area regularly attack motorists and villagers, seizing motorcycles, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables during their operations.
Many also complained that several incidents go unreported, creating the impression that the scale of insecurity is lower than it actually is.

The recurring attacks have significantly affected farming activities and economic movement across the area, forcing many residents to abandon their farms or limit travel due to fear of attacks.
Community leaders and residents have called on security agencies to strengthen patrols along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari highway and increase security presence in vulnerable rural communities.
They urged authorities to take urgent action to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents who continue to live under the threat of violence and abduction.
The latest incidents add to growing concerns about the effectiveness of efforts aimed at ending banditry in parts of Kaduna State, as communities continue to grapple with recurring attacks despite assurances from authorities.
