Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has reportedly told his deputy, Philip Shaibu, to abandon his governorship ambition as a condition for Obaseki to accept his public apology.

VerseNews had earlier reported that Shaibu recently begged Obaseki for forgiveness. Obaseki stated that Shaibu must drop his governorship ambitions before they can resolve their rift.

Obaseki reportedly summoned the Edo executive members to Lagos for a two-day session without informing or inviting Shaibu.

The governor is said to have threatened to withdraw Shaibu’s security vote and exclude him from government activities if he participates in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.

Obaseki is also allegedly planning to introduce his chosen successor, Asue Ighodalo, to the executive members.

“It is expected that the Governor will unveil and introduce his successor to all Exco members in Lagos this week,” a source who attended the seminar was quoted to have said.

Effort to get official confirmation on the Exco meeting held in Lagos failed, as no aide of the Governor was willing to comment.
