The Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) has declared that the Anambra governorship election set for November 6, 2025, will not hold in the South-East, following its announcement of a three-day sit-at-home order.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Acting Prime Minister Ogechukwu Nkere, BRGIE said the sit-at-home would run from November 6 to 8, 2025, in protest of the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the imprisonment of Simon Ekpa in Finland.

The group maintained that “Biafrans remain resolute in their decision to exit Nigeria,” citing alleged injustices and denial of fair treatment by Nigerian authorities.

“The Biafra Republic Government in Exile wishes to remind all Biafrans and Nigerian politicians parading themselves in old Anambra that no elections will hold on lockdown days — November 6, 7, and 8, 2025,” the statement read.

BRGIE alleged that Nnamdi Kanu’s death in detention and the continued persecution of Biafran agitators were proof of “systemic oppression.” It further claimed that 50 million Biafrans voted in a 2024 self-referendum to exit Nigeria, describing the movement as “irreversible.”

The group also commended Donald Trump for recently designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged persecution of Christians, urging the United States government to follow up with sanctions on Nigerian officials.

“If the American lawmakers and President Donald Trump could listen to our pleas in Washington, D.C., it shows the international community is beginning to take notice,” BRGIE said. “Kidnapping Mazi Nnamdi Kanu can’t stop Biafra, and imprisoning Simon Ekpa can’t stop Biafra.”

BRGIE warned that any attempt by Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the election in Anambra would be met with “resistance.”

The INEC had earlier confirmed that the Anambra governorship election would hold on November 6, 2025, despite ongoing security concerns in parts of the South-East.

This announcement follows recent comments by Donald Trump, who threatened possible U.S. intervention in Nigeria over what he described as “mass killings of Christians.”
