Mbappe and PSG are under pressure as they face the challenge of overcoming a 3-2 deficit against Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

PSG’s performance in the first leg was lackluster, raising concerns about Mbappe’s form and the team’s readiness.

With Mbappe’s potential departure looming, PSG must rally for a successful comeback to keep their European hopes alive.

Paris Saint-Germain faces the daunting prospect of another disappointing exit from the Champions League following a 3-2 first-leg defeat at home against Barcelona.

With their quarter-final tie hanging in the balance, PSG must rally to overturn the deficit in Tuesday’s return leg.

Initially, expectations weren’t high for this PSG team, which underwent a transition following the departures of Lionel Messi and Neymar last year. However, the impending departure of Kylian Mbappe after this season added urgency to their ambitions.

Despite a favorable draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals, PSG’s lackluster performance against Barcelona highlighted the challenges ahead. Mbappe, the linchpin of their attack, struggled to make an impact in the first leg, raising concerns about his form and the team’s overall readiness.

Questions have also arisen about coach Luis Enrique’s handling of Mbappe, with the striker’s playing time and preparation under scrutiny. Additionally, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s errors compounded PSG’s defensive vulnerabilities, exemplified by the shaky performance of newcomer Lucas Beraldo.

As PSG navigates these hurdles, their quest for European glory hinges on restoring Mbappe’s form, shoring up defensive lapses, and mounting a comeback against Barcelona in the crucial second leg.

“Little details made the difference and there are things that we can’t accept in the second leg,” captain Marquinhos said after the game in Paris, in reference to Barcelona’s first and third goals in particular.

“We have no choice. We have to go and win there.”

While exiting in the quarter-finals might be expected for PSG at the moment, it would certainly be a lackluster ending to the Mbappe era, representing a missed opportunity.

However, history shows that comebacks are possible, as demonstrated by Barcelona’s dramatic turnaround against PSG in 2017 under Luis Enrique’s guidance.

PSG shouldn’t lose hope, especially with key players like Achraf Hakimi returning from suspension. With his influential presence on the right flank, PSG’s lineup will be bolstered for the crucial second leg.

Additionally, Mbappe may be motivated to showcase his talents and prove himself on the big stage. With his potential impact, PSG still have a chance to turn the tide and advance to the next round.

“I have no doubt that we can turn it around and that we will. That is my objective,” Luis Enrique said.
