Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared himself the most experienced and electable presidential aspirant within the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made the declaration during an interview on ARISE News on Friday while speaking on the growing political activities within the opposition party.

The former Minister of Transportation said his leadership experience places him ahead of other contenders reportedly eyeing the ADC presidential ticket, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Northern Nigeria Development Company boss, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

According to Amaechi, his political record and years in leadership positions distinguish him from other aspirants.

Amaechi highlighted his past roles as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers as part of his credentials.

“I have been chairman of the Governors’ Forum. None of them, including President Tinubu, has been chairman of the Governors’ Forum,” he stated.

He also referenced his time in the legislature, saying he played a major role in strengthening the Speakers’ Conference during his tenure.

“I established the Speakers’ Conference office in Abuja. And I ran this thing for two terms,” Amaechi added.

The former governor recalled how his return for a second term as chairman of the Governors’ Forum generated controversy at the time.

He alleged that former President Goodluck Jonathan was uncomfortable with his re-election as chairman.

“The president then didn’t want me to come back,” he claimed.

Amaechi also criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing the government of worsening hardship across the country.

According to him, hunger is being used as a political tool to influence voters during elections.

“The president is creating hunger as a way of manipulating voters,” he alleged.

“On that day, city boys will bring a bag of rice and some people will eat that rice and vote for them because a bag of rice does not solve hunger for the rest of the year.”

“If they say they are strong, why are they not allowing the opposition to have their political parties?” he questioned.

Amaechi also stated that restoring law and order would be his top priority if elected president.

“The first thing I would do as president of Nigeria is the rule of law. It has to be law and order,” he said.
