Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called on top opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, to join him in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
VerseNews reports that El-Rufai, who recently resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said he was disappointed in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, despite initially believing he would perform well.
He noted that many of his political allies in Kaduna have also defected to the SDP.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai emphasized the need for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
“What I want and pray for is for all opposition leaders—Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola—to join the SDP,” he said.
He also dismissed claims of betraying Atiku, stating that their relationship was based on professional work, not politics.
El-Rufai maintained that his past political decisions were made in the best interest of governance rather than regional or personal loyalty.
