The match began cautiously, but Newcastle took the lead just before halftime when defender Dan Burn scored with a header from a corner in first-half stoppage time.

The Magpies extended their advantage in the 52nd minute when Alexander Isak capitalized on a defensive lapse to double their lead.

Liverpool struggled to mount a comeback despite multiple substitutions by manager Arne Slot. Federico Chiesa pulled one back in injury time (90+4), but Newcastle held firm to seal a famous victory.

The final whistle confirmed Newcastle’s long-awaited triumph, ending a 70-year trophy drought. The win also marks Eddie Howe’s first major cup victory as a manager.
