Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Al-Waleed Dies After 20 Years in Coma Following Horror Crash at Age 15

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince,’ has died at the age of 36 after spending nearly two decades in a coma.

He slipped into a coma following a devastating car accident in London in 2005 when he was just 15 years old. The accident left him with severe brain injuries and internal bleeding. Despite receiving treatment from specialists in America and Spain, Prince Al-Waleed never regained full consciousness and was kept on a ventilator at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.

Over the years, videos occasionally surfaced showing minimal movements — in 2020, clips showed him lifting his fingers as a woman greeted him. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, a prominent Saudi royal, remained by his side for the last 20 years and firmly refused to withdraw life support.

Born in April 1990, Prince Al-Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled and nephew of billionaire businessman Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.

Confirming the news, his father wrote:
“With hearts full of faith in Allah’s decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and sorrow, we mourn our beloved son Prince Al-Waleed… may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away to Allah’s mercy today.”

Funeral prayers for the late prince are scheduled to take place on Sunday (July 20) after the Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
