  • The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has declared that the party’s mission is not merely to seize power in 2027 but to build a political legacy grounded in credibility, accountability, and inclusiveness.

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has emphasised that the party’s vision extends far beyond winning power in 2027.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Tuesday, Mark said ADC’s primary goal is to establish a political legacy that future generations can be proud to inherit.

“The party is not seeking power for its own sake; we are in a marathon, and we must compete and win. Failure is not an option,” he said.

The former Senate President assured that ADC would become an institution “bigger than any personality, stronger than any moment,” and distinctively different from any party in Nigeria’s history.

A People-Oriented Party
Mark described the party’s leadership as pan-African, people-focused, and responsive to the needs of all citizens, including persons with disabilities, retirees, and vulnerable groups.

“The conveners of this mission are respected leaders from every corner of our nation who have freely chosen service over comfort. We have set aside narrow interests for the common good. The road will be uphill; sacrifice will be demanded. Those threatened by democracy will resist it, yet we advance—calmly, courageously, together as a formidable team,” he stated.

He outlined ADC’s leadership standard as anchored on four non-negotiable pillars: character, competence, courage, and discipline.

Blueprint for Change
Unveiling a new political direction for ADC, Mark stressed that the party would prioritise:

“Our commitment includes dignity and inclusion for workers, women, youth, farmers, professionals, retired security officers, educators, persons with disabilities, retirees, civil society, and the vulnerable,” he added.

He charged the NWC with reviewing the party’s constitution to reflect this vision and developing a code of ethics, financing rules, and compliance systems.

Policy Priorities
Mark further stated that ADC would:

  • Field only credible candidates who meet its four-pillar leadership standard
  • Ensure price stability and productivity through credible fiscal and monetary coordination
  • Expand power generation and fix transmission bottlenecks for reliable electricity
  • Secure food supply by supporting farmers across the agricultural value chain

“We must establish functional ward, local government, and state structures with trained organisers, digital registers, and service desks. We will build a leadership pipeline through a merit-based academy policy focused on ethics, communications, and service delivery,” Mark said.
