A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has urged the Federal Government not to bow to pressure to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Igbokwe, a long-time critic of the IPOB leader, made his position known in a series of posts on his Facebook page on Thursday. He insisted that Kanu, whom he described as a “terrorist,” allegedly misled his followers into killing thousands of Igbo people through his utterances and directives, and therefore does not deserve any pardon or soft landing.

In one of the posts, the former Senior Special Assistant on Drainage to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, declared that anyone who could allegedly instigate violence against his own people should face the full weight of the law.

“A man who led Igbo young men and women to kill our people in 10 years, burnt our homes, stole our wives, closed our markets and businesses, etc., does not deserve pity or pardon,” Igbokwe wrote.

On Nnamdi Kanu’s Health Status

Responding to claims by Kanu’s legal team that the IPOB leader is gravely ill and should be released on health grounds, Igbokwe dismissed the argument, insisting that Kanu is in good health.

“Nnamdi Kanu is 110% okay. Let us not deceive ourselves. He killed our people in thousands and destroyed businesses. They are saying he is sick—he is not sick at all. All these claims about his health are lies from the pit of hell,” he said.

Reaction to Omoyele Sowore’s Planned Protest

The APC chieftain also reacted to the planned #FreeNnamdiKanu protest by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, scheduled for October 20. Igbokwe urged the former presidential candidate to abandon the plan, warning that supporting Kanu’s release would amount to dishonoring the memory of those allegedly killed on Kanu’s orders.

“Those who know Sowore should tell him not to march and spit on the graves of thousands of Igbos killed on Nnamdi Kanu’s instructions from 2015 to 2025. The colossal damage in Lagos is still there.

Kanu deserves no pity, only the fair treatment our constitution guarantees, so he can face justice for every crime he’s accused of. The rule of law must never be selective. He incited violence against Nigeria and Nigerians, and he must answer for it,” Igbokwe stressed.
