Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed deep frustration following his team’s stunning 1-0 defeat to Everton on Monday night at Old Trafford.

Despite Everton playing with 10 men from the 13th minute following a bizarre red card for Idrissa Gueye, the visitors shocked United with a memorable victory. Amorim revealed: “Really frustrated like any other person that supports Man Utd. The way we started the game, the way we didn’t understand how we should play against 10 men. They deserved to win.”

The Portuguese coach highlighted his side’s lack of intensity from the opening minute: “You can feel it right away when we start the game in the first minute you can feel when we are at the top level of intensity and when we are not. Then when we are not we cannot win in this way.”

Amorim also criticised his players’ poor decision-making in attack: “We had a lot of chances but the quality and the decision-making was not there.”

The match saw Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall break the deadlock on the half-hour mark with a curling strike from the edge of the penalty area, securing Everton’s first win at Old Trafford since December 2013. Jordan Pickford produced several crucial saves to preserve the lead, while United managed only six shots on target throughout the game.

The defeat ended United’s five-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, and the absence of injured forwards Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha was particularly felt.

Fans expressed their frustration with boos at half-time and the final whistle, while Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville questioned the tactical approach: “You have five at the back, why? They still don’t win the first ball or second ball. Embarrassing.”
