Leeds, England – Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes took a major hit on Wednesday as they suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat at struggling Leeds United, who moved out of the relegation zone with the victory.
The Blues, who had been on a solid run with three wins in four unbeaten league games, struggled to find rhythm at Elland Road, where Leeds, coming off four consecutive defeats, delivered an inspired performance to ease the pressure on home manager Daniel Farke.
“We were so desperate to bring this club back to the top level, and Elland Road was tonight back to its best,” Farke told the BBC after the game.
Chelsea remain fourth with 24 points, three behind third-placed Aston Villa and nine behind leaders Arsenal. Leeds, buoyed by their win, climb to 17th with 14 points.
The hosts struck early in the sixth minute from a corner, with defender Jaka Bijol rising unchallenged to head past Robert Sanchez. Chelsea continued to struggle despite Enzo Fernandez’s attempts to rally his teammates.

Leeds doubled their lead just before halftime when Ao Tanaka unleashed a ferocious shot from outside the box after a Chelsea turnover. Chelsea briefly threatened a comeback after Pedro Neto converted a cross from Jamie Gittens five minutes after the break, but Leeds held firm.

The decisive blow came in the 72nd minute when Noah Okafor dispossessed Tosin Adarabioyo and set up Dominic Calvert-Lewin to tap home the third goal, sealing a memorable win for Leeds.
Farke praised his side’s performance: “A great, great shift from my lads, great performance against one of the best sides in the world. They won the Club World Cup in the summer; they’re one of the contenders for the Premier League title, and to win this game in this manner is well deserved.”
Chelsea will need to regroup quickly as they aim to recover their title ambitions in the coming fixtures, while Leeds look to build on a morale-boosting victory.
