Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has formally committed 25 per cent of his personal wealth to the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) to guarantee the long-term sustainability of the newly launched ₦100 billion Annual Education Support Fund.

Speaking at the unveiling of the programme on Thursday, Dangote said the endowment—already endorsed by his children and mother—was designed to ensure the Foundation’s work continues “for generations.”

“The sustainability of this programme, which I expect will run for generations of the Dangote family, is grounded in my formal commitment to allocate 25% of my wealth to my foundation,” he said.

“My children and my mother have signed off. In the event of my death, 25% of my wealth will automatically go to the Foundation.”

Dangote described the fund as the largest private-sector education intervention in Nigeria’s history, expected to benefit at least 1.3 million students over the next decade through scholarships, school infrastructure, and essential learning materials.

He said the initiative marks “a defining moment” for both the Foundation and Nigeria’s education system, stressing that no country can achieve meaningful development without sustained investment in human capital.

The education fund also cements Dangote’s long-term commitment to social impact, positioning education at the forefront of the Foundation’s philanthropic agenda.
