The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices Programme, known as C.L.I.C.K.D., to help Nigerians access laptops, smartphones, tablets and other digital devices through affordable consumer credit.

The programme is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

The initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden of buying digital devices by allowing eligible Nigerians to pay gradually instead of making full upfront payment.

What is the C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme?

C.L.I.C.K.D. stands for Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Devices.

According to CREDICORP, the programme is meant to make digital devices more accessible to Nigerians who need them for learning, work, business, remote jobs, freelancing, digital skills and online opportunities.

FG says programme will boost digital inclusion

The Federal Government said the programme is part of efforts to expand digital inclusion and support Nigerians who need devices to participate in the modern economy.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, said access to credit is important for economic growth and digital transformation.

He noted that initiatives like C.L.I.C.K.D. can help Nigerians acquire productive assets, improve their skills and participate more effectively in the digital economy.

First phase to support 3MTT participants

The first national pilot of the C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme is being launched in partnership with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent, 3MTT, Programme.

This means that eligible participants in the 3MTT ecosystem are expected to be among the early beneficiaries of the scheme.

CREDICORP said the first phase will focus on helping eligible participants access laptops and work-ready devices on credit, especially as they continue training for digital and technology-related jobs.

Locally assembled laptops to be prioritised

The programme will initially prioritise locally assembled laptops as part of efforts to support local manufacturing and create jobs in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.

CREDICORP’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, said the corporation would provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible fellows under the programme.

The rollout started in Abuja, where some beneficiaries received their devices, while others are expected to receive theirs in phases across the country.

Is C.L.I.C.K.D. a free laptop or phone grant?

No. The C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme should not be seen as a free laptop or phone giveaway.
