Rita Edochie Reaffirms Support for Nnamdi Kanu, Demands IPOB De-proscription

Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has reiterated her support for the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, declaring that intimidation and criticism would not stop her from advocating for his freedom.

The actress made her position known in a recent post on her official Facebook page, where she addressed critics and reaffirmed her commitment to what she described as the pursuit of justice, equality and fundamental human rights.

Edochie maintained that advocating for a cause one believes in should not be regarded as a crime, stressing that peaceful demands for justice should not attract intimidation.

According to her, she remains committed to the struggle until Kanu is released, insisting that she would not abandon the cause despite the criticism and backlash she has faced.

In her statement, the actress declared that she would continue to choose courage over fear, facts over falsehoods and peaceful advocacy over violence.

She also outlined three major demands, including the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the de-proscription of IPOB and the unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience.

Edochie further warned that her occasional silence should not be interpreted as a sign of surrender or weakness, maintaining that she remained determined to speak out on issues she considers important.

She concluded her message by appreciating her supporters, whom she referred to as the “Great Lovers of Rita Edochie,” while reaffirming her commitment to the cause.

Her latest statement has drawn attention to the ongoing public debate surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, IPOB’s proscription and calls for a resolution of the Biafra-related agitation.
