Nigeria’s Flamingos have secured their first appearance in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final following a 3–1 victory over Brazil in Morocco on Wednesday, November 4.
Queen Joseph opened the scoring before Awawu Bashiru struck twice to put Nigeria firmly in control. Brazil scored a late consolation, but the Flamingos maintained their advantage to complete a historic semi-final win.
Nigeria will now face Japan in the final on Saturday, November 7.
The teams went into the interval level at 0–0, leaving the contest open despite Nigeria’s attacking pressure.
Joseph broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, giving the Flamingos the lead and setting the stage for a decisive second-half performance.
Bashiru doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 71st minute, then scored again in the 80th to establish a commanding three-goal cushion.
Brazil responded through Greise in the 89th minute. However, the goal came too late to threaten Nigeria’s passage into the final.
Bashiru’s two goals proved decisive, turning a narrow lead into a comfortable advantage during the closing stages.
Under coach Akeem Busari, the Flamingos will now prepare for Japan with the opportunity to crown their tournament campaign with a maiden world title.
Saturday’s final presents a new challenge against a different opponent, but Nigeria enter the fixture after scoring three times against Brazil and delivering their most significant result of the competition.
