The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has ordered Channel Television to pay the sum of N5 million for breaking the broadcasting law in a programme with the Labour Party (LP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed.
VerseNews Nigeria reports that this was disclosed in a letter signed by the commissions Director-General, Balarabe Ilelah and addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the television station and dated March 27, 2023.
In the title: “Broadcast of an Inciting Interview, A Sanction”, the broadcasting station was faulted for encouraging ‘inciting comments’ through aba-Ahmed interview who said is unconstitutional to swear in president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The letter partly read; The NBC monitored the broadcast of a live interview of the running mate of the Labour Party Vice presidential candidate, Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, by the anchor of Politics Today, Seun Okibaloye, on Wednesday, March 22.
“Dr Baba-Ahmed said it will be unconstitutional to swear in an elected president on May 29, 2023, because of election irregularities.”
Recall that Online News Media reported that Tinubu petitioned the NBC, demanding that ‘Channels Television’ should be sanctioned for allegedly breaching of Section 14.0.1 of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.
