Nigerian youths have backlashed the reporter of the ‘Time Media’ whose name is Astha Rajvanshi with respect to her article on Nigeria’s president-elect, Asiwaju ola Tinubu in the list of ‘the 100 most influential people in 2023..

VerseNews Nigeria reports that Rajvanshi received a bombardment of denigration on social media for the article she wrote for Tinubu, which painted his role as a “longtime political power broker” and his efforts in helping to restore Nigeria’s democracy in 1999.

Many Nigerian Twitter users, who are mostly supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, known as ‘Obidients’ lambasted the writer for decorating Tinubu’s contentious political career, which includes allegations of corruption and drug case in the United States, among others.

This Online News Media gathered that Rajvanshi reportedly locked her Twitter account after the attack was unbearable and beyond her control.

Nigerians youths argued that he did not merit the credit given the ongoing controversies surrounding his election victory and his apparent role in the country’s economic woes.

Some Nigerians also claimed the the writer was influenced by money paid to her by some members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with a leaked chat evidence going viral on social media.

Despite the criticism, Tinubu’s supporters have hailed his inclusion on the list as a validation of his leadership and political influence, both in Nigeria and on the global stage.

Some Twitter reactions from the Nigerian youths are:

@zodiflare wrote “Astha Rajvanshi @astharajvanshi did not write that piece for FREE. It was a paid-promotional piece for BAT’s media publicity campaign. Guy wants to forcefully appeal to Nigerians & d world to accept him, hence the TIME Magazine piece. Clowns’

@Omojuwa wrote; “Please extend our love to Astha Rajvanshi @TIME, Nigerians, including those who don’t support Tinubu, will never attack anyone for writing an article. Those attacking her are the new seamy side of our political culture, a headless mob. Most countries have them these days.”

@Gen_tuu69 wrote, “Above is Astha Rajvanshi  @astharajvanshi repost on LinkedIn, thanks to @ChiomaChuka for the thoughts shared to clear up the TIME 100 Tinubu’s feature. I think Agbados didn’t bother to read the Article and Obidients wonjured her too fast. Na Journey we dey go, and we go finish am.”

@EmekaOkoye wrote “Dear #ObiDients, Attacking Astha Rajvanshi was uncalled for and unnecessary. She didn’t do it because she doesn’t like Nigeria. The bigots lobbyists sold the idea to Time Magazine. We should have just educated her with all that has been going on. This was just not right IMHO (in my honest opinion).

@Hexemty1 cautioned, “Okay now; I think the “Obidients” needs to be cautioned and sensitized appropriately. Bcos why do u have to go hard on anyone that has a contrary opinion to yours. Don’t people especially of the press reserve/have the right to carry out their assignment again?!”
