Access Bank Branch in Warri, Delta State was set on fire by angry mob over naira scarcity on Valentine’s Day.

VerseNews reports that major roads leading to the bank were blocked and the Bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) was set on fire including building close to the Bank.

Bank customers and suspected staff where seen running out from the bank in different directions after the intervention of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

Recall that, Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor announced the redesign of the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes on October last year and instructed Nigerians to deposit their old notes before January 31, 2023 when they would cease to be legal tender.

VerseNews reports that, CBN again shifted the deadline to February 10, but many Nigerians still have found it difficult to obtain the new naira notes.

Point of Sales (POS) operators have also unofficially put their charge rate of N5,000 between N500 and N1,000 making it more difficult for residents to withdraw their money.
