President Bola Tinubu has approved an additional N10,000 for workers for a period of six months, following a meeting between Federal Government officials and labor leaders on Sunday.

The meeting, chaired by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, aimed to avert a nationwide strike.

Initially, it was agreed that the N25,000 promised to low-cadre workers by the president for six months would be extended to all workers.

However, labor leaders reportedly rejected this offer and demanded more, leading to the additional N10,000 increase being announced by the presidency.

The Federal Government also committed to fast-tracking the provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to alleviate transportation difficulties caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy.

Furthermore, funds will be provided for micro and small-scale enterprises.

Both parties urged labor unions not to proceed with a strike, as they believed that the issues in dispute could only be resolved while workers are at work.

A sub-committee will be formed to work out the implementation details of government interventions to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The labor delegation was led by NLC President Joe Ajaero, Dr. Tommy Etim Okon, Deputy President of TUC, NLC General Secretary Emma Ugboaja, TUC General Secretary Nuhu Toro, among others.
