A district head and around 50 others, primarily women and children, were abducted, and three individuals were killed in a bandit attack on Bagega, a mining village in Zamfara state.

VerseNews gathered that the assailants arrived on motorcycles, shooting indiscriminately and setting houses on fire.

Confirming the attack, the village head, Abubakar Uba, told Reuters that the gunmen kidnapped the district head before proceeding to kidnap dozens of others in the village.

“They stormed the village on dozens of motorcycles, and their first stop was the district head’s residence. A few of them took him away with three members of his household before they entered the town and unleashed more harm,” Uba stated.

All efforts to speak with the state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, for his comments on the attack were fruitless as he did not respond to calls or messages sent to his phone, as of the time of filing this report.
