Governor Abiodun announces 50% discount rice sales to residents in Ogun State in an attempt to cushion the prevalent economic hardship in the country.

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has announced the commencement of rice sales at a significant discount to residents of Ogun State, in an attempt to cushion the prevalent economic hardship in the country.

VerseNews reports that the Governor spoke during the special Iftar (Breaking of Fast) organised for the League of Imams and Alfas in the state at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile,This initiative aims to restore the purchasing power of public servants, with a committee established to oversee the sale of the commodity.

Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of returning citizens to their pre-inflation purchasing power, thereby mitigating the impact of economic challenges.

The discounted rice sales, facilitated by the newly formed committee, will enable the administration to sustainably address the needs of the populace. Additionally, rice will be provided free of charge to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and impoverished.

The governor noted that a committee was set up to oversee the sale of the commodity to residents of the state, adding that selling at 50% discount would avail his administration to continue to buy more to be sold to the people.

Governor Abiodun urged Muslim faithful to maintain a holy lifestyle beyond the fasting period, emphasizing the importance of ongoing prayers for the well-being of both themselves and the wider community.

Additionally, he reassured the gathering of his commitment to constructing a prestigious secretariat for the League of Imams and Alfas, which he promised would set a benchmark for other states upon completion.

Also,he cited the gradual stabilization of the dollar as a sign of positive change under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.Urging continued prayers for the success of the administration and called for unity and kindness among the Muslim community during Ramadan.

The governor, describing God Almighty as deliberate, highlighted the divine orchestration of Lent and Ramadan occurring simultaneously, providing both Christians and Muslims with the opportunity to collectively seek divine mercy for the country.

Additionally, he urged the Muslim Ummah to embrace forgiveness and demonstrate acts of kindness during this period.

Imam Tajudeen Adewunmi, the Secretary of the League of Imams and Alfas, praised Governor Abiodun for his consistent efforts to empower eight Muslim youths every month and lauded his leadership, highlighting his commitment to not using his office to cause harm.

Special prayers were offered for the upcoming 72nd birthday celebration of President Tinubu, scheduled for March 29th, during which Governor Abiodun was honored with the title of Ambassador of Peace in Islam.
