- Curaçao goalkeeper Eloy Room produced one of the greatest performances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making 15 saves against Ecuador and coming within one save of equalling Tim Howard’s all-time World Cup record.

Veteran goalkeeper Eloy Room delivered a stunning performance on Saturday as Curaçao held Ecuador at bay during their Group E clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 37-year-old shot-stopper made an incredible 15 saves during the encounter, falling just one save short of matching the all-time World Cup single-match record of 16 set by American goalkeeper Tim Howard against Belgium in 2014.
Ecuador dominated proceedings from start to finish, firing 27 shots and registering 10 efforts on target, but they repeatedly found their way blocked by the inspired Curaçao captain.
Room’s heroics ensured the Caribbean nation remained competitive despite spending large periods under pressure. His performance was particularly remarkable considering Curaçao suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat to Germany in their previous World Cup outing.
The display has quickly become one of the standout moments of the tournament, with football fans around the world praising the veteran goalkeeper for his resilience and determination.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Room has reached such heights. He also recorded 15 saves in a 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Honduras, proving that exceptional performances have become part of his legacy.
The Miami FC goalkeeper’s latest heroics not only kept Curaçao in the game but also etched his name into World Cup history, coming agonisingly close to breaking one of the tournament’s most iconic goalkeeping records.
For Ecuador, however, the result raises fresh concerns about their attacking efficiency after failing to find a way past the inspired Room despite creating numerous chances.
Regardless of the final outcome, Eloy Room’s 15-save masterclass will be remembered as one of the most remarkable individual performances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
