Gumi has given updates after meeting with the security agents over his offer to negotiate with bandits for the release of 137 kidnapped pupils.

Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi, based in Kaduna, confirmed his invitation by security agencies following comments he made on bandit activities.

VerseNews recalls that the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that no one is above the law and if found guilty, Gumi would be reprimanded.

Gumi acknowledged his engagement with security agencies in addressing the scourge of banditry, stressing the importance of unity and collaboration in tackling the national challenge.

Meanwhile, He expressed gratitude for the productive interaction, highlighting mutual respect and a shared commitment to achieving lasting peace.

Last week, Gumi found himself at odds with security agencies after disputing their authority to label individuals as terror financers particularly in response to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit’s designation of his associate, Tukur Mamu, and 14 others.

The cleric had also offered to negotiate with bandits for the release of 137 pupils abducted on March 7, 2024 from the Chikun Local Government Area of the state by marauding bandits in Kaduna State.

However, government officials, including the Minister and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, asserted that no ransom was paid for the safe return of the kidnapped pupils and that Gumi was not involved in the safe return of abducted Kuriga pupils.
