Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that he is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice if it would guarantee the safe return of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in the state.

Makinde made the remark on Monday while addressing a group of youths led by social commentator and activist, Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who staged a protest at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan.

The governor assured residents that his administration had deployed all available resources and security structures to rescue the victims.

“Those children and their teachers will be brought back. Let me make it very clear: Oyo State is not Chibok, and it will never become Chibok. We have committed significant resources and deployed all available efforts to ensure their rescue,” Makinde said.

He noted that security operatives involved in the rescue efforts had continued to make sacrifices in the line of duty, stressing that the government remained committed to reuniting the victims with their families.

Makinde further underscored his personal commitment to the rescue mission, stating that no sacrifice was too great when innocent children were involved.

“If you ask me whether I can sacrifice myself for those children to regain their freedom, I will do it. I have lived a good life, and nothing is more important than bringing those innocent children and their teachers back safely,” he added.

His comments come amid growing public concern over the abduction, which has triggered protests and renewed calls for urgent action by government authorities and security agencies.

Makinde, however, maintained that Oyo State would not allow a similar tragedy to define its history.

He reassured parents and residents that his administration would not relent until the victims regain their freedom and measures are strengthened to prevent future incidents.

The abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area has continued to generate nationwide concern, with many Nigerians calling for intensified rescue efforts and improved security across schools and rural communities.
