The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has Wednesday presents Certificate of Return to a 26-year-old lady, Rukayat Shittu who was declared the winner of the Kwara State House of Assembly election.

VerseNews Nigeria reports that Shittu who will be representing Owode Onire Constituency in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara.

She is the former Senate President of the Congress of Students at the National Open University (NOU) of Nigeria.

According to the INEC Returning officer, Professor Hakeem Ijaya, Shittu who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 7,521 votes to beat her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, who polled 6,957 votes in the Saturday March 18 House of Assembly election.

  • Shittu hometown is Manyan in the Onire District of Kwara State. Prior to her election, her village had never represented her constituency politically.
  • She is graduate from the National Open University (NOU) of Nigeria.
