An argument between locals and herders in Nasarawa state has resulted in one fatality, with a Baptist Church pastor severely injured.

VerseNews reports that the incident occurred in Boher village, within the Ningo/Boher electoral ward of Akwanga Local Government Area.

Eyewitness accounts suggest the dispute began when herders passed through the Ningo community square with their cows, and local youths confronted them, leading to a physical altercation.

Two of the herders left with their cattle, but one remained and engaged in a heated argument with the youths.

The situation escalated when the herder produced a sword and inflicted a deep cut on the head of the Baptist Church reverend, who had tried to intervene.

Believing the reverend was dead, the youths attacked and killed the herder with machetes.

Prior to the incident, one of the herders had shared pleasantries with a youth from Boher village after receiving drinking water.

Steven Bello, the Youth leader of the Ningo/Boher electoral ward, expressed regret over the incident and called for restraint from both locals and herders, urging them not to take the law into their own hands.

The reverend is currently undergoing treatment in an undisclosed hospital, and the deceased herder was buried according to Islamic rites in Akwanga in the presence of relatives.
