Ahead of the 2027 elections, the Labour Party, under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, on Wednesday unveiled a comprehensive schedule of activities designed to attract 10 million new and re-registered members into the party.

The timetable was announced at the inauguration of the National Steering Committee for membership revalidation, new registration, and the nationwide mobilisation exercise tagged “Labour Party Connect 10 Million Nigerians.” The exercise officially commenced on December 17.

According to the party, the programme will culminate in a World Congress scheduled for January 13, 2026. This will be followed by a series of congresses at different levels: local government congress on January 17, state congress on January 24, zonal congress on January 31, and a national convention slated for February 28, 2026.

Speaking via Zoom to party members during the event held at the Labour Party National Secretariat in Abuja, the interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, said the initiative was a strategic move to reposition and strengthen the party ahead of future political responsibilities.

She stated that expanding and consolidating the party’s membership base was one of her administration’s top priorities, noting that internal challenges previously hindered the achievement of that goal.

“However, with the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident that we will not only recover lost ground but emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she said.

Usman acknowledged that the party had faced intense challenges and distractions in recent times but noted that most of the issues had been resolved through the courts, with a few still pending.

“I therefore call on all existing members of our great party to take full advantage of this exercise to revalidate their membership. I also warmly invite all Nigerians of goodwill… to seize this opportunity to register and formally become members of the Labour Party,” she said.

She added that the membership exercise would run across all wards, local government areas, and states of the federation until January 20, 2026, reaffirming the party’s commitment to offering Nigerians a credible, people-driven political alternative.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Steering Committee and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described the 10 million membership target as more than a numerical goal.

“This is a national call to action. The aim is to strengthen democracy and give voice to the aspirations of our people,” Emetu said, adding that the initiative marked a renewed focus on grassroots mobilisation.

He explained that the committee would work towards building a Labour Party that is inclusive, democratic, transparent, and responsive to the needs of Nigerians across the country.

The steering committee was inaugurated by the party’s interim National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.
