- The PSC has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and demoted 16 others following disciplinary proceedings over misconduct.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers following findings of serious misconduct and behaviour incompatible with their responsibilities as law enforcement officers.
The commission also demoted 16 officers, issued severe reprimands to 21 and ordinary reprimands to two others.
The decisions were announced in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, by the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Kalu.
They followed a plenary meeting chaired by retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Beyond the sanctions, three officers were cleared of wrongdoing, while some previously suspended personnel were reinstated into the Nigeria Police Force. The announcement did not specify how many officers were reinstated.
Argungu said the commission remained committed to holding police personnel accountable and enforcing professional standards.
He reiterated its opposition to corruption, human rights violations and improper police involvement in land and civil disputes. These were outlined as areas of concern across the Force, rather than a detailed account of the offences committed by each dismissed officer.
The PSC chairman also assured Nigerians that disciplinary cases would receive attention as part of efforts to improve professionalism and public confidence in policing.
The reports of the announcement did not identify the three dismissed officers or provide individual accounts of the cases against them.
Argungu commended the commission’s Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, led by retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, for its work on disciplinary cases and appeals.
He also acknowledged officials involved in reviewing the matters at departmental, committee and plenary levels before the decisions were reached.
