Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, broke the African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Sunday.

VerseNews reports that the Nigerian sprinter clocked 7.75 seconds, improving her own mark of 7.77 seconds that she set in Kazakhstan in January.

Amusan came second in the race, behind American Tia Jones who ran 7.72 seconds to set a new meeting record and a world-leading time for the year. Devynne Chalton of the Bahamas was third with 7.76 seconds in a close finish.

This was Amusan’s second record-breaking performance of the year, after she eclipsed Gloria Alozie’s 25-year-old African record in the same event on January 27. That was also her first race of the new athletics season.

Another Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, also impressed in the women’s 300 meters, where she finished second with 35.99 seconds.

Ofili was behind Gabby Thomas from the US, who ran a world-leading time of 35.75 seconds to win the race.

Lynna Irby-Jackson from the US was third with 36.05 seconds.

Ofili holds the African indoor record in the women’s 200 meters, which she established in March 2023.
