In a much competitive race, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been declared the winner of the presidential election by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

VerseNews Nigeria earlier reported that the INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday announced that Tinubu had won 37 percent of the vote in Saturday’s election and, “having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

This Online Newspaper learnt that the declaration of the 70-Year-Old former Lagos State Governor has triggers many reaction among Nigerians and the opposition parties.

Opposition parties and many Nigerians have rejected the presidential result on the ground that it lacks credibility and transparency as promised by INEC.

There are records of vote suppression, results manipulations, and thugs snatching ballot papers and violence during the election.

But What Happens Next?

Tinubu’s inauguration or swearing-in ceremony as the 5th president of Nigeria after the gain of democracy in 1999 will not happen until May 29 2023.

President Buhari on February while addressing Nigerians expresses readiness to hand over power to the winner of the presidential election.

But the opposition parties are set to mount a spirited legal challenge before inauguration ceremony.

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has vowed to take every peaceful and leagal process to challeng the President-Elect in court.

“Let me assure the good people of Nigeria that we’ll explore all legal and peaceful options to reclaim our mandate. We won the election, we’ll prove it to Nigerians,” he said.

Can The Supreme Court Take Any Decision?

Petitions against the results can be filed in the courts days after the announcement of the results. The election petition tribunal is expected to wrap up any challenges within 180 days.

The Supreme Court has the final say on the petitions.
