Nigerian customs have return about six trucks of seized food items to the owners following president Tinubu’s order.

The Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has handed over six trucks of food items consisting of grains to their rightful owners, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

These trucks, previously intercepted along the Kongolam Border Patrol Checkpoint in Mai-Adua Local Government Area of Katsina State, were released to address food security concerns and alleviate hardships faced by citizens.

Under the presidential directive aimed at ensuring food security, the Katsina State Customs Area Comptroller, Muhammad Umar, oversaw the release of the trucks loaded with assorted grains, which had been under the custody of the Nigerian Customs Service.

Meanwhile,This action follows a directive from the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasizing the return of detained food items to their owners, with the condition that they be sold within the Nigerian market.

To prevent further smuggling, the released trucks will be closely monitored by the Katsina Customs Area Command in collaboration with various enforcement units, including the Customs Intelligence Unit, Federal Operation Unit, and the Joint Border Patrol Team. This collaborative effort aims to ensure that the grains are not illicitly taken out of the country again.

Emphasizing a commitment to dialogue and collaboration with border communities, the Customs Service seeks to foster prosperity and security in the region.

Moreso,The public is urged to provide any relevant information to help curb the smuggling of foodstuff out of the country, enhancing both economic stability and national security.

Moreover,During a brief ceremony, Jabiru Abdullahi Tsauri, Chairman of the State Taskforce Committee on Food Security and Promotion, emphasized adherence to the presidential directive.

Tsauri warned smugglers and owners of the released trucks to strictly sell the assorted grains to Nigerians, particularly citizens of Katsina State.

However,Local government chairmen have been instructed to form committees to monitor the sales of these grains in collaboration with the task force, ensuring compliance with regulatory measures.
