Mark Zuckerberg’s meteoric rise highlights tech sector’s impact on billionaire rankings

Despite the economic challenges facing Nigeria, Forbes has named Nigerian businessmen Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Femi Otedola as the top richest Nigerians in 2024.

VerseNews gathered that Dangote’s fortune surged to $13.4 billion, while Adenuga’s stood at $6.7 billion. Rabiu and Otedola achieved a fortune of $5.2 billion and $1.4 billion, respectively, in 2024.

Aliko Dangote remains the richest man in Africa and the richest Black man globally, with an estimated net worth of around $13.4 billion in 2024. His conglomerate, Dangote Group, stands as one of the largest private-sector employers in Nigeria and the most valuable conglomerate in West Africa.

Forbes reports a prosperous year for billionaires globally, with fortunes swelling amidst global stock market resilience against war, political unrest, and lingering inflation.

The report highlights the concentration of wealth among the elite, with a record 14 individuals joining the $100 billion Club, collectively holding $2 trillion in wealth. The billionaire population has surged to 2,781, boasting a combined net worth of $14.2 trillion.

Leading the list is Bernard Arnault, worth an estimated $233 billion, followed by French luxury goods magnate Bernard Arnault, who saw a $22 billion increase thanks to another record year for his conglomerate LVMH.

Mark Zuckerberg notably gained $116.2 billion in a single year, reaching an estimated net worth of $177 billion, placing him fourth on Forbes’ 2024 ranking.

The United States boasts a record 813 billionaires, collectively worth $5.7 trillion, while China remains second with 473 billionaires worth $1.7 trillion.

India, with 200 billionaires, ranks third, despite weak consumer spending and a real estate bust that impacted billionaire wealth.

Forbes’ calculations utilize stock prices and exchange rates from March 8, 2024, illustrating the dynamic nature of global wealth accumulation in the face of evolving economic landscapes.
