Covenant University has been named the Best University in Nigeria for the second consecutive year in Times Higher Education’s 2024 rankings, placing it among the top 1,000 universities globally.

The university leads ahead of the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in the rankings.

Covenant University has been recognized as the best university in Nigeria for the second year in a row, according to Times Higher Education’s 2024 rankings.

The university, located in Ota, Ogun State, has risen to a global standing of 801st, placing it among the top 1,000 universities in the world.

The prestigious ranking showcases Covenant University’s consistent excellence in teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.

VerseNews gathered that the university first gained recognition in 2018 when it was named the top university in Nigeria and the sixth-best in Africa.

In the latest rankings, Covenant University surpasses both the University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, which hold the second and third spots, respectively.

The rankings assess the performance of 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions using carefully calibrated performance indicators.

Additionally, other Nigerian institutions that feature prominently in the top university rankings include the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, the University of Benin, and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Overall, nine of the top 15 universities are located in the South West, with the remaining institutions spread across the South East, South-South, North West, and North Central regions.
