The EFCC is considering a military intervention to arrest Yahaya Bello from the Kogi Government House, where he is reportedly taking refuge.

This action follows his evasion of arrest and allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as Kogi State Governor.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning that it may involve military intervention to locate and arrest former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who has been evading capture.

In recent weeks, the EFCC has been engaged in a challenging pursuit of Bello, who has managed to avoid arrest despite multiple attempts at his Abuja residence.

Obstacles to his apprehension have persisted, and reports indicate that the former governor may have sought refuge in the Kogi State Government House.

He appears to be taking advantage of the immunity granted to Governor Ahmed Ododo under Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution.

Bello is facing allegations of financial misconduct during his time as governor, and he was scheduled for court arraignment this Thursday. However, his absence from the proceedings resulted in a postponement.

During the proceedings on Thursday, EFCC’s Counsel, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro, informed the court of the commission’s determination to bring Bello to trial. He stated that military intervention may be necessary to apprehend Bello, as immunity does not extend to anyone other than the current governor.

“We may have to engage the military to force him out because immunity does not cover him where he is hiding. No one is above the law. Immunity covers only the governor and not everyone around him,” Pinheiro added.

The EFCC’s stance underscores its commitment to pursuing justice and holding public officials accountable for alleged misconduct.
