Labour presents a fresh demands to the government led by Bola Tinubu, totaling seven requests.

These demands include calls for state and local government police, improved labour-government relations, and the full implementation of minimum wage across all sectors.

As Workers’ Day approaches on May 1, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has presented a set of seven new demands to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

VerseNews reports that these fresh demands are in addition to the call for an increase in the minimum wage for workers nationwide.

Hakeem Ambali, the National Treasurer of NLC, outlined key requests including the creation of state and local government police forces to enhance security, the full implementation of the minimum wage across all levels of government and the private sector, and the settlement of pension arrears.

The NLC also seeks the establishment of compressed natural gas conversion centers across all senatorial districts, the repair of Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries, local government autonomy, and an infrastructure support scheme for all local governments.

“We expect that there should be improved labour government industrial relations, full implementation of minimum wage across the board for the federal, state, local government and private sector workers,” Ambali said.

“Settlement of pension arrears, the establishment of compressed natural gas conversion centers in all senatorial districts, fixing of Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries.

“Creation of state and local government police, granting of local government autonomy, granting of infrastructure support scheme to all local governments,” he added.

Ambali emphasized the need for all sectors to comply with the new minimum wage, which has been proposed at N615,000 per month, once it is officially approved.

The NLC awaits further discussions with the tripartite committee on minimum wage.
