The Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned young Nigerians against relying on sports betting as a means of making money, insisting that gambling is not a reliable path to wealth or lasting success.

Speaking during a sermon on Sunday, the renowned cleric urged youths to abandon the pursuit of quick riches through betting, warning that it could destroy their future and derail their destinies.

“Young people, naija bet is not the way to financial fortune. Stop wasting your destiny, stop wasting your destiny, stop wasting your destiny. I have never been once deceived. Stop!” Oyedepo declared.

The bishop stressed that genuine prosperity is built on discipline, patience, hard work and faithfulness, not on gambling or the desire for instant wealth.

He encouraged young people not to become discouraged when success appears slow, assuring them that achievements built on the right foundation are more enduring.

“Things may be slow, but it is sure,” he said.

To illustrate the importance of gratitude and faithfulness, Oyedepo shared a personal testimony about the woman who introduced him to Christianity when he was just 15 years old.

According to him, decades later, after turning 60, he expressed his appreciation by buying her a car and delivering it to her residence in the United States.

“My mother of faith led me to Christ at 15. When I turned 60, I got her a car that they took to her place in the U.S., she wept. You had better wake up,” he said.

His comments come amid growing concerns over the increasing popularity of sports betting among Nigerian youths.

Religious leaders, financial experts and social commentators have repeatedly warned that dependence on gambling as a source of income could expose young people to financial hardship, addiction and other social challenges.

Oyedepo’s latest message adds to the ongoing calls for Nigerian youths to embrace hard work, perseverance and legitimate means of building lasting wealth.
