Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia.

Ortiz secured the Senate seat after emerging victorious in the March 2026 parliamentary election, where she campaigned on a platform advocating rights and legal protections for workers in the adult entertainment industry.

According to Colombian news outlet El Tiempo, Omaña will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region as a member of the Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 parliamentary term. She secured the seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed electoral list.

The Historic Pact is currently the strongest political force in Colombia. Data released by the country’s National Registry shows the coalition won 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote, receiving more than 4.4 million votes, which translated into 25 seats in the Senate.

The lawmaker, who previously worked as a journalist before joining the adult film industry and later returning to public life, has maintained that her past career should not be used to judge her ability to serve in public office.

According to Infobae Colombia, Omaña believes women who have worked in the sexual economy contribute significantly to the country’s economy and deserve legal recognition instead of continued social stigma.

She also responded to critics who questioned her suitability for public office in a TikTok video following her election victory.

In the video, she asked:

“¿Por qué una mujer que estuvo en la industria para adultos no puede aspirar a un cargo de elección popular?”

Translated into English, the statement means:

Omaña, who was born in the city of Cúcuta, said her legislative agenda in the Senate will also focus on mental health and sexual abuse initiatives.

Her swearing-in is regarded as one of the most closely watched developments in Colombian politics in recent years.

It comes months after her appointment, alongside fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality, a move that generated controversy within the administration of President Gustavo Petro.
