Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris

The Nigerian government, through Information Minister Mohammed Idris, has denied any discussions or plans to establish foreign military bases in Nigeria, calling the rumors baseless and unfounded.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has clarified in a statement from Abuja that the Nigerian government has not considered any proposals to establish foreign military bases within the country.

VerseNews reports that this response comes after rumors surfaced suggesting that such discussions were taking place.

Idris emphasized that these claims are completely baseless and without any foundation.

He firmly stated, “The Federal Government is aware of false alarms being raised in some quarters alleging discussions between the Federal Government of Nigeria, and some foreign countries on the siting of foreign military bases in the country. We urge the general public to totally disregard this falsehood.”

This Online News Platform understands that Idris assured the public that there are no ongoing talks with any foreign nations regarding this matter, confirming that the government has not received any proposals to this effect.

The statement also highlighted that Nigeria continues to engage in foreign cooperation to address its security challenges and that President Bola Tinubu is committed to enhancing these international partnerships to meet the national security goals outlined in his Renewed Hope Agenda.
